How we support

Stress is one of the leading causes of burnout, and in this sector, where teams are regularly exposed to trauma, the risk is even greater. Constant exposure to other people's pain can quietly build up into vicarious trauma, which fuels a burnout loop that drains energy, motivation and wellbeing. By recognising and addressing vicarious trauma early, we help organisations support their staff in a meaningful, sustainable way. Our trauma informed staff wellbeing work gives leaders and teams the tools, reflective space and practical strategies they need to stay well, stay engaged and keep doing the work that matters. We also help organisations meet new government wellbeing requirements, building healthier workplace cultures where staff feel valued, protected and able to thrive. As part of this work, we deliver our Trauma-Informed Practice in the Workplace workshop for senior leaders, HR, people teams, EDI leads and managers. It draws on 25 years of frontline practice across the NHS, local authorities, schools and the wider public sector, and offers a clear, honest place to begin: the SAMHSA principles adapted for UK workplaces, six practical implementation steps, the warning signs that a workplace isn't trauma-informed, and how trauma-informed practice connects to new employer wellbeing duties, reduces sickness absence and improves retention. You can read the full guide on our resources page (/resources/trauma-informed-practice-workplace) or find the session on our training page (/training/trauma-informed-practice-workplace).

Frequently asked questions

What is SWISS?

SWISS stands for Staff Wellbeing In Safe Spaces. It is our organisational wellbeing offer for teams working with trauma, complexity and emotionally demanding caseloads, providing reflective, trauma informed support that protects staff and improves practice.

Who is SWISS designed for?

Frontline workers, managers and whole teams in health, social care, criminal justice, education, housing, domestic abuse, substance use and the voluntary sector — anywhere staff carry the weight of other people's stories.

How is SWISS different from clinical supervision or EAP?

SWISS is not a replacement for clinical supervision or an employee assistance programme. It sits alongside them as a proactive, trauma informed wellbeing space focused on preventing burnout, vicarious trauma and moral injury.

What does a SWISS engagement look like?

Engagements are shaped to your team, and typically include reflective group sessions, one to one wellbeing check ins, and practical guidance for leaders on building a trauma informed culture.

How do we bring SWISS into our organisation?

Get in touch for a free consultation. We will map what your team needs, agree the shape of the work and design a SWISS programme that fits your context and budget.
