This 3-hour workshop introduces The Self-Esteem Approach™ (SEA™) to staff working with clients across education, substances, impulsivity and mental health concerns, criminal justice, mental health, housing and homelessness, social care, the NHS and any other sector supporting people with multiple and complex problems. The SEA™ is a framework focused on helping people build healthier self-worth and balanced self esteem, particularly around major life changes, recovery, relationships, personal development and emotional wellbeing. This workshop aims to build confidence in staff to use the SEA™ framework with their clients to improve outcomes in relation to engagement and sustainability of change. Key themes explored on the day include: • Improving self-esteem in practical, accessible ways. • Helping people become their own source of validation and support. • Supporting recovery from complex challenges including addictions and eating disorders. • Incorporating CBT and DBT tools in a way that is easy to understand and apply. • Distinguishing between genuine self-worth and high self esteem which can sometimes be masking insecurity. • Creating resources and tools that help people achieve progress more quickly by drawing on Joanne's lived and professional experience. The Self Esteem Approach™ is a practical and reflective framework designed to support teams working with people experiencing vulnerable or complex life circumstances. Rather than focusing solely on the "problem" or behaviour, this approach places self-esteem, self-worth and identity at the centre of support, recognising that lasting change is far more likely when people begin to see value in themselves and their future. Developed by Joanne King through more than 25 years' experience supporting hundreds of individuals affected by issues including criminality, substances, impulsivity and mental health concerns, domestic abuse, trauma, poverty and social exclusion, the framework is rooted in the belief that many harmful behaviours are symptoms of unmet emotional needs, shame, hopelessness and low self-worth. The workshop explores how professionals and organisations can embed self-esteem-led practice into everyday interactions, culture and service delivery. Participants will reflect on how language, systems, relationships and professional responses can either reinforce shame or help build confidence, trust and empowerment. Grounded in trauma-informed practice, compassion and REAL equality, The Self Esteem Approach™ encourages professionals to move beyond crisis management and towards more sustainable, person-centred outcomes. The framework supports teams to build healthier relationships with the people they support, increase engagement and create environments where individuals feel safe, valued and capable of positive change.
